Hi all, Should I replace my existing oil pump with a new one while I'm doing this rebuild, or if measured up and found to be within tolerance, is it ok to keep the old one? A new one is $300+. (AUD).

I've heard that they should be filled with Vaseline before installation, which will sit there till the engine is started, at which point it gets flushed out by the oil. PaulH.

I read the vasaline methode in a Haynes manual for a newer American V6 I was working on. There is no way that oil could have been usen w/o leaking out given the configuration. George
