The specs on my new car call for synthetic oil. When I start the car, the computer displays the mileage to the next maintenance and tells me what maintenance is required. Right now the number points

I am inclined to perform an oil (Mobile 1) and filter change every 5,000 miles on my Durango that is used as a tow vehicle and for every day local travel. Better safe than sorry. And not quite as an

Many new cars have much longer service intervals than many are used to. My five year old Jetta calls for oil changes every 10,000 miles. Oils and manufacturing tolerances have gotten much better. Unl

The oil will probably last 15,000 miles, but there is no way that the oil filter will last that long. 7,500 should be the longest interval. Bill

As I recall, when Mobil 1 was first sold, changing the oil was not required, just a filter replacement at some mileage interval and toping off the oil level.

A number of oil studies I've seen in recent years show the 10-20k oil changes are perfectly fine. The onboard computer systems that dynamically determine oil change intervals are quite good according
