Anyone have an opinion on using oil restrictors for flow reduction? I've pulled the motor out of the Vette I bought to get to the rear of the block just to check this. The engine is a race motor and

If the same lifter(s) is/are always involved, the lifter bores aren't straight. For Bonneville, I feel more conformable with .080-.090. But that's just a guess on my part. Bryan

Richard, The restrictors are for the valve train not the camshaft lobes. The cam is lubed by oil thrown off the rods. The most common reason for a camshaft failure is not being broken in correctly. Y

A stock SBC does not use OEM oil restrictors. They are used only for short-term use (i.e., drag racing) with mechanical roller cams & roller rockers. The idea is to reduce the amount of oil to the t

With the strong acceleration a drag racing engine sees the rear of the crankshaft is submerged in oil - In the mad storm of oil the valve train gets well lubricated and cooled - The oil not needed fo

Yes, I can say the same. Every motor (all 300 inch Chevys) I have run at Bonneville has had restrictors. Without restrictors the rocker area gets excessive oil. Never have lost a camshaft or lifter.

It depends on the springs and cam lift / lobe profile. If it were very aggressive i would say yes it is not a bad idea. Dave

Restrictors limit and control oil to the rockers. The spray bar is designed to put oil in a specific location on a specific part (the valve springs) The cooling effect is very important to longer li

Have you also considered high tech coatings on the valve springs to control heat build up and oil retention? I'm familiar with what HPC coatings do on valve springs and I'm sure there are others ava

There are a few things you need to check that are more important than the restrictors. Flat tappet cams either, solid or hydraulic, the lifters have to rotate. The easiest way to check this is to ins
