- My '74 MG Midget seems to have one spark plug that consistently gets gunky. The car progressively gets rougher, I pull that one plug, and it's black and wet. Replace it, and all is well, for a while.

- Black and wet indicates to me that the most likely cause is a bad spark plug. Try switching plugs around and see if the problem follows the plug. Or it could be the cap. Or maybe the plug wire. You c

- I would start with the electrical, wires, cap etc., You may also want to check the coil for a crack around the nipple. If you have access to a compression tester it wouldn't hurt to check the cylind

- Wet with what? Wet with gas would indicate a bad plug or plug wire. Wet with oil would indicate a bad set of rings or a worn valve guide. A comprehensive compression test would indicate which. Cheers
