i had reaad somewhere that the early tr4-a's sold in the us were fitted with the solid axle because either the dealer's or triumph thought that the buyers wouldn't want to pay the extra amout it cost

I have that book. It is very informative. I would have thought by 1967, with Spitfires being Triumph's biggest selling model in the USA, (I believe that was in the book), it would have been standard.

When I bought my MGTD (in England, 1972) it had no heater. I drove it around there for a year then shipped it back to Texas where I drove it 2 more years before selling it. Never really bothered me
