While the quoted figure seems very low, I don't think your alternative is right, either, Tony! In Santa Barbara, in 1975, my restoration shop was charging $10 an hour. In 1977, we upped it to $12.50

Geez... My mechanic charges $35 an hour to the tourists and annoying locals. $28 if he likes you. By the way the local mechanic in my village that works on my other cars charges between $15-20 per h

It's pretty clear I'm getting ripped off! Actually, my only experience with current mechanic's rates is at the local Japanese car dealership, where I see posted signs when I'm there getting warranty

$55-$60 are what many East Coast LBC shops charge... a few even charge $65/hour. There are some very small ones though, that bill at a rate of ~ $30. -- KMR
