I believe you are essentially correct that the black finishes in restored cars in general, and this one in particular, are much shinier than the "black" and especially the "satin black" finishes the

There were (at least) two different black finishes used, satin and what I would call a semi-gloss black. For example, the generator per se is satin black, but the bracket is semi-gloss. Some of these

For whatever it's worth, the 260 engine in the 64-1/2 Mustang we purchased new in June of 1964 and just sold 1 year ago (to pay for our Tiger) had a black block with blue valve covers and air cleaner
