I went to look at some outboard motors today. Mercs. 2 liter 4 cylinder at 200 hp and a 3 liter V6, don't know the power. They do use roller and ball bearings for rods and mains. I am thinking that o

Rich you called them roller and ball. I would have thought that it might have been a caged needle bearings. I believe the company I work for makes the caged needle assembly for those motors. I am not

Bill; Nitriding is similar to case hardening and may be thick enough to not crack through. What you are calling caged needle bearings I think is what I call roller bearings. They are in split cages,

The rollers on the crank are caged, the needles on the wrist pin are not. As I recall the outboards use Torrington (sp?) bearings... is that who you work for? I believe that OMC and Mercury both use
