Have you check your fuel mixture setting? Your carb might be leaning out at hi rpm which will cause the engine to run hot. You can check it quickly by pulling the plugs, they should be light brown, i

Mike, does your distributor diaphragm capsule work? (watch the timing as you apply vacuum to the line going to the dizzy--it should change) Also, at 3K your mechanical advance should come into play..
