I believe this would be a DPO modification. The 4A and 4 are essentially the same and I know they were not on the 4, and I don't recall ever seeing one on my brothers old 4A or on any others at shows

Well, I am pretty sure it is original, but maybe a dealer-added item. I am hoping to find a new similar compressed fiber pad, but I am using a back-up plan of having a padded cork spacer.... -Tony Me

I Believe it's felt. Also used on the fuel tank and between the hood and it's braces. I went to a local saddle shop. They use felt, in varying thickness' in the manufacturing of custom saddles. Don S

The pad looks like really tatty pressed board. Halfway between cardboard and particle board. However, it is not hard; it does have some give to it when squeezed. Cork is harder, and felt is definitel
