That is exactly why I went through the hassle of having a "Profession Appraisel" done of my car and had that appraisel recorded with my insurance company. This was on the advise of my insurance agent

I just went through this in NJ. If the repair cost is greater than 75% of the car, they will not pay to fix the car they will total the car. Sort of makes sense, if you have done 30K damage to a 40K
