I am getting off my dead butt and working on the 1275 for the 65 Sprite. I have a set of triple beams and wondering if anything would be gained by balancing the pistons and rods. I am NOT building th

Brad, I may be way off here, but the 1275 has offset con rods, I don't think you can balance them. Well I'm sure they can be balanced but being offset would require about 8oz of weight added to the o

When refering to balancing connecting rods you are really matching the rods to each other. The rods are matched by weight to each other, first finding the lightest then removing material from the ot

For all of the comments it leads me to believe that I should be careful as to which side of the rod I remove material from, so as to not throw the crank out of balance. Perhaps I should just put it t

Balancing in this case would mean ensuring that each piston con rod pair weighed close to the same. you weigh all the individual pieces then put the heaviest piston with the lightest connecting rod.

I misunderstood the question. I thought Brad wanted his pistons "balanced" What he said, and what I thought are 2 differnet things. I thought he wanted them "centered". Or balanced in weight where t

IMHO, balancing is still worth doing. It will yield a longer lived engine, and a more pleasant car to drive. I took the trouble to balance my old VW Beetle engines (a design that's pretty low vibrati
