- Don't think that would be true in areas with basements. My hotwater heater is in the basement. Maybe they are concerned that someone will fall into it while trying to rob you!

- The used to have pits in the Chicago area. They are illegal now. I don't know the reason why. But I wonder how Jiffy Lube and others get away with it. Maynard

- If explosive vapors are the concern maybe they use a blower to vent the pit. Although I'd never take my MGB to Jiffy I wonder if it is wide enough to straddle the pit? Mike '79B
