The owners book for my '98 Mystique says to use "Mercon Power Steering Fluid", but I haven't seen that on the shelf at my local auto parts stores. The stuff currently in the reservoir looks reddish,

Stu - I'm pretty sure that Mercon ATF is OK to use in your Mystique's power steering unit. Seems you are not the only one a little confused about this question though. http://www.ford-trucks.com/foru
