British Wire Wheel lists a kit of new parts to convert Steel wheel cars to wire wheels. It is $675. New wire wheels are $150 per wheel. New axles are $150 per side. You are talking about $1750 to do

And then again you have problems getting $20 for a complete set up with 5 wires and all near new tires. This happened to me at Carlisle one year trying to sell a very good complete wire wheel set up.
