Turn the headlights on an then try to start it, it hte lights all but go out then the battery is the culprit, but if they stay bright then I would look towards the starter. All of this with the stand

If you heard the starter work off-load by shorting, that suggests the solenoid is working. Could be that the momentary live, energised with your key in the start position, is disconnected or broken.

Hi Denny - at this stage I would check the battery voltage at about 1500 rpm with some load on like headlights, heater motor etc, you should see around 14v with a 10 amp load. If it is less than that
