- Sounds like a worn input shaft bearing. Nothing to do short of tear down the tranny - not bad on a 4 speed but a significant effort on a 2L 5 speed. I'd drain and refill the fluid, to minimize furth

- I've heard the opposite. "When the clutch is in and the the bearing whines, it's the throwout bearing." and "don't hold the clutch down when at a stop light, it puts unnecessary wear on the throwout

- If you pull the engine (which you need to do to service the clutch) you are CRAZY not to do EVERYTHING. Plate disc and bearing. Dave
