Did you check you backup light switch on the transmission? If you have an early car like mine, the switch often dies and costs ~$65 I think. I can't FIND the switch on the transmission. The Haynes manual is significantly less than clear on the matter. I took out the fuse & checked it with an ohmmeter. The ohmmeter showed no short when I clipped the wires together.
