I believe the RS part number is 272-1133. It is rated at 7 1/2 volts, so you can't turn the dimmer up too far. The idea is to drive them at a higher voltage to get more output with less life. I don'

The voltage stabiliser is supposed to provide 10v to the instruments. Could the genius friend check out the circuitry to see if the lights could be powered from that? Would require an on-off switch,

What it actually provides is a voltage that averages 10V, it does this by being on for a while then off for a while, with the timing tuned to average out for 10V. Not ideal for dash lights. -- Trevor

Hi Trevor, I have never understood how this thing works. Is it like the flasher of the turn signals, wherin the current heats a spring that pops open the contacts, then closes them as it cools? I hav

Exactly, the voltage stabilizer uses the same bimetal and heating wire as the fuel and temperature gauges. This allows the gauges to quickly come to the propoer level when first starting the car (the

Bob: The gauges don't leap up and down their scales because they are dampened and respond very very slowly. I guess MG gets away with this because the temperature and fuel level don't change very fas

Yap! Except it's a very small device that operates a lot more quickly, perhaps explaining why we we don't here it. A couple of times a second, fast enough. The gauges it controls are the kind that mo
