Does the rear brake adjuster on a 1971 Midget screw directly through the back plate? The real question is if the adjuster has been stripped by a DPO, does the rear brake plate have to be replaced? //

Yes but from inside the drum. You have to remove those little wedges from inside the drum, and screw it towards the outside of the car. Oil it up real good, screw it in from behind the back plate, on
