This is the reason it can be risky to convert to wires without replacing the casing also. It works but carry a spare axle. I did it and have never had a problem but I know others who have. LM --Origi

The wire wheel axle extends into the differential 1/2 to 3/4 inch less then it should when installed in the steel wheel case. This apparently puts the stress somewhere other than where it was intende

I converted 2 Sprites to wires without swapping the housings. I never had a problem with the axles but the wire wheel axles are 3/8" shorter than steel wheel axles. They do fit and are fine for norma
