- I'm replacing the axle shaft seals and bearings, and found that the inner seal (Timken 40769-S) has a lip to lip diameter of 1 3/8" while the shaft diameter is 1 5/16". Should there be a gap of 1/16

- I think you'll find that a seal that doesn't seal is not a seal!! Maybe your axle has shrunk in the cold?! Troy (in Australia)
