I finally got out there and looked at the 2 cars and have pretty much decided if I can get the differential out that's what I'm going to do. The housing in the 79 is different than the earlier model

The 8.8 is a better choice, in my opinion. There are more choices for the 9" (as in different ratios) but the 9" is a much larger setup. The 8.8 will handle anything that the Rover will put out in a
