It was a dry, sunny day today here in the Pacific Northwest (only the second one for April, I think), so I took the TR out for a spin, just to let the new top set in the sun :-). Anyway, I noticed a

Did you check the rear transmission mount? If it's broken, the rear of the trans can shift on corners causing the drive shaft to rub against the tunnel. At least it can on a TR3. Bob /// triumphs@au

Hi Bob, The rear transmission mount and drive shaft u-joints were replaced last summer when I rebuilt the engine. I should also add that the noise didn't seem to be related to braking or acceleration

The engine, and hence the exhaust, will definitely deflect some in a corner; and it will make a rumbling noise if it touches down on the frame. Did the noise exist before installing the rebuilt hubs

You haven't said anything about the condition of the diff. Is the nature of the rumble such that you would discount it? Have you tried driving slowly in a very tight circle to see if the noise is in
