does anyone have experience with "refilling" the rear levertype shocks ? Mine are worn and my mechanic told me that I should try filling up with old engine oil. If they don't leak the shocks should

I've never done this with TR6 shocks, but once refilled a set of Spridget levers with Castrol Type R (the old soybean based oil) with great results! Nice and stiff. Bill

Not to disagree with an old mechanic, but old engine oil will be full of particles that will just wear out the shock even faster. There are good firms doing rebuilds (Apply Hydraulics is one I've hea

Bert--Engine oil has been used to firm up the lever shocks. (I think Kastner used 40W) but this might be too stiff for street use, if used straight. Just about anything that modifies the shock oil to

Engine oil is not a good idea for lever shocks because it has detergents that can damage seals. You want to use a hydraulic fluid. I heard of people using the heaviest hi-performance Harley Davidson

I've got Apple's "heavy duty" rebuilds and they are GREAT. The folks back there really work to get things right on the first order. Also, I used the Harley Davidson heavy duty fork oil with very good

Well it appears that I must bow to the massed wisdom of the list and stop being a stick in the mud. So does putting heavier oil in the dampers eliminate the need for the tube-shock conversion, or is

Ooops. Time to chime in on this one. There is no "need" to upgrade to tube shocks. People do this because they either identify an actual reason to do it (like a racer might need more shock because of

I don't know about heavier oil, but the heavy duty valve body will definitely do the job. Steve Well it appears that I must bow to the massed wisdom of the list and stop being a stick in the mud. So

Hi All, When we rebuilt the rear suspension of our 75 TR6 last year, we removed the tube shock conversion and tossed it into the trash. Why you ask? Two reasons: (1) the autocross wheels would not fi
