What I have heard is the smaller the filter the "sooner" the bypass becomes activated. Even largish (PH8A) filters have their bypass open at higher RPM (and viscocity) but smaller filters bypass soon

I am using a PH3512 direct screw in to block (with adapter) and it's readily available a Pep Boys. The capacity is 1/2 quart and will filter just as well as the full size original, but only for 1./2
