My opinion-Yes, original would be preferable to restored and I think that's the consensus. On the other hand, a restored Bugeye is certainly worth more than "an original" Bugeye that has holes in the

Frank, thank you so much for the tip on the oil based spar varnish. I called my friend and he was at the point of applying the varnish, but he has urethane spar varnish and oil based regular varnish.
