So if you have a 1600 rear end 3.9, with a 5-speed trans then you get the following? 5-spd with 1600 Rear end standard : 3.9 1st Gear : 3.117 2nd Gear : 1.958 3rd Gear: 1.382 4th Gear: 1.054 5th Gea

Based on the calculator, running the 195/50/15 tires/1600/4-speed/3.90 rearend, I'd be doing 4,047rpm at 70mph. Drop in the 3.70 rearend and I'd be doing only 3,839rpm. Or, to put it another way, wit

So did you consider the ratio's on the 5 speed. With your rearend it would improve dramatically. Pat 67.5 2000 Solex

You have the gearing wrong. 5 speed: Fred Chilton book 1st 3.117 2.957 2nd 1.958 1.858 3rd 1.382 1.311 4th 1.054 1.000 5th .898 .852 Pat --Original Message-- From: Fred_Katz@ci.sf.ca.us <Fred_Katz@ci

I think what Fred is saying (I haven't done the calculations to know for sure) is that 2.957 in 1st with 3.70 rearend rotates the tire at the same rate as 3.117 in 1st with 3.90 rearend. In reality 2

Nope. Check your figures again. I'm using a 5-speed with a 3.90 rear end. When you calculate the ratio between a 3.70 and a 3.90, it changes the effective gearing ratios! Fred Very

Hi Adam, Yes, you got it right, and said it better. Oh, welcome back to the list! I'm running 195/60/14 tires on Libras. 15's would look cool! Fred - So.SF BADROC -- Original Message -- From: "Adam B

It changes where the rubber meets the road, not the actual gear ratio of the gear box. Pat --Original Message-- From: roadster <roadster@rcn.com> To: Patrick P. Castronovo <slick1@mohaveaz.com>; Fred

No, I said it changes the effective gearing ratio, not the actual gear ratio. As Adam said, I'm making the case that the effective gearing ratio changes so "2.957 in 1st with 3.70 rearend rotates th

I got a reminder that speed is nice but not to get carried away. On my 300ZX the other day I had to take a left turn around some traffic in the intersection. Since I was about to go up a hill I punch
