I only assumed thats when they were fitted. The 18V engine was in the Marina long before it was fitted to the MGB, perhaps ALL 'B' series were so 'shimmed'. I still have to find a reason, and am foll

Neil, Just a bit of information re your quest....my BMC parts book, which covers up to 1970 models contains no information regarding these shims. They are not shown, nor are they mentioned in any was

I had thought of something similar to that as well. On some engines, ( Triumph, Ford, ) the post is split, so it clamps onto the shaft when the nuts are tightend. Seems a cheepo way of sorting it tho

My Haynes (published 1981) mentions the shims (.005in, .13mm), my workshop manual (1976) does not. Haynes says to fit them to earlier engines when reassembling. Both say to slacken all cylinder head
