Hi Y'all, Now that the engine is broken in and the gear box is running well, I have been playing around at higher speeds. I can run close to the red line going up thru the gears, but once in 4th or 5

I may be way off here, but isn't the engine's load at say 4,300 rpm's in first or second the same as 4,300 rpm's in the higher gears. My possibly incorrect assumption is that higher speed effects flo

Chuck Check timing, and points. Try this trick to see if it is a fuel problem.....while at speed, pull out the choke, if you get more rpms it is fuel, if not it is ignition. Good luck -- Frank Claric

Sounds to me like either mixture or timing. Are your throttle spindles worn out? This could be leaning the air/fuel out at high rpms. Play with your timing too. Maybe its just out. Lawrence Gowin 71

You were right the first time, the load on the engine is much higher at higher speeds, and the fuel consumption is much higher. You probably also have the throttle more wide open to acheive this. The

Right. All "external" loads go up with speed - you've got drag increasing with speed, higher drivetrain losses, windage, increased friction from tires heating up (I know, I know, the coefficient of
