Since I've gotten the rebuilt engine back, I've noticed that it will sometimes run on when I turn the key off, and make this wheezing, death-rattle sound as it does. The run-on lasts about three seco

My 76 did the same after the engine rebuild. I have never determined the cause of mine, but many say that too-lean of a mixture, too-rich of a mixture, or over-advanced timing are causes. Mine does

Timing, too-high an idle speed, a portion of the head gasket protruding into the combustion chamber (unlikely) can all contribute to the "dieseling" that you are experiencing. You might try lowering

Thanks for giving me some places to look. Hopefully I'll have the timing spot-on after tomorrow, but the mixture may be a little more hit-and-miss. I leaned the mixture out once already to get rid o

Vince, Thanks for the tip. I lowered the idle speed to about 1000 rpm, which is the lowest it will idle smoothly. I think I need to get the old SUs rebuilt and back on the car. I don't think the 32/

Scott, I bet your car has to idle at over 1000 rpm with that new cam, right? In order for the car to stop when you shut the key off your car needs to idle at less than 1000 rpm. Ah, but with the new
