Check your spark plugs. Pull them and see what they look like. Maybe try a different set.

I had replied to Mike off list, but this may be of some group importance. The "P" part of the BP6ES means "Protruding", as in the tip protrudes farther in the cylinder. I would try B6ES in this case

As dnaniderf suggested, pulling a plug lets you see a little piece of the inside of the combustion chamber. Lean can also do this, so double-check the mixture hot. Some vintages of MGB like my 1973
