My wife s 65MGB is running like a tractor, power is down, and it blows blue smoke, especially when idling and as you rev to pull away. It is not burning a lot of oil, and there are no other unusual m

As I understand (not being engine experienced at all), blue smoke is oil. A blown head gasket means water gets into cylinders and becomes steam (ie., white smoke). You should have seen the white smo

As Bill says blue smoke means oil. Lots of oil smoke when pulling away after idling a while is often valve stems/guides/seals. Is it firing on all cylinders evenly? Could one of the plugs be oiled-up

Sounds more like rings or valves. Do a dry/wet compression test... Or even better, a leakdown test, but that takes more equipment. Skye -- 1966 MGB - GHN3L Safety Fast! __,__\__ The MGB Experience ww

Ok, I've had a chance to take out the sparking plugs and perform a compression test. Plugs from cylinder 1 & 2 looked normal, 3 & 4 looked a little oily (but not badly). Cylinder 2 pressure tested to

Valves, rings, holed piston can all cause a single cylinder to be down. A head gasket is more likely to fail between 2 and 3 and hence cause two low readings. If the gasket has blown anywhere else I

Sounds to me as though the rings have broken in #2 and are on the verge of it in #3. In order to minimize damage to the cylinder wall in it apart. Good luck, CR /// or try http://www.team.net/cgi-bin
