So, something's been bugging me for a while now. Are the nuts/bolts on my '77B English or Metric thread? When I'm working I grab whatever wrench fits best (or first), but I'd like to know. The front

Most everything is SAE. Most of the heads are 1/2", with some 7/16" and some 9/16". Keep those three wrenches handy, and you're pretty much set for most areas of the car. /// or try http://www.team.

Paul, I think I recall those dashboard studs are British Standard I don't think your car will have metric. Most items will be SAE. With a few various British threads, as well as Whitworth, thrown in

Well, some metric sizes are close enough to SAE sizes to get by. For instance, 19mm is close enough to 3/4 inch to use the same socket. I suspect that was the case on the dash. The real size was 11/3

There are no factory installed metrics on an MGB - aftermarket or DPO, perhaps. However, there are a number of places that non-SAE (UNF, to be proper) fasteners are used: Most carburetor and fuel fi

It wasn't the wrench size I was measuring in this case. It was the thread. Rich had both metric and SAE, and the metric went on, no SAE would work. Maybe it was BSF and it came out to be the same as

Not sure what studs you are looking at, but 3/16" UNF is pretty close to 5mm nuts and screws of each type will thread on to each other, albeit not a perfect fit. Ian F /// or try http://www.team.net/
