- The oil is actually not for lubrication but for the damping effect on the pistons in the carbs. They should be topped up with engine oil to just above the metal sleeve inside, Do not worry about ove

- you can use engine oil. It doesn't take much. When you pull the dipstick out and there is resistance, you are fine. If you overfill, you just make a mess, no problem. How often depends on your car.

- Looks, smells, feels like ATF to me. Leaves hands clean after exposure like ATF. I thought it was an old fashioned viscosity range enhancer with detergents to help prevent sludge. I use straight 30w
