I took my six out for the first time from winter storage and noticed that a couple of times while starting from a stop the shifter would not move out of neutral at all. Couldn't go into first, second

Just4--It's strange that the gears wouldn't grind as you tried different ones. However, my guess is that you are low in fluid in the clutch Master cylinder, and you are pumping air to get the clutch

I believe the synchromesh is what is keeping the gears from touching and grinding unless one was to really put a lot of pressure on the shift lever. Having said that, I wouldn't want to try forcing

If this only happened once, Read "The problem WAS intermittent but frustrating", more than likely the friction disk was stuck to the flywheel. I've had this happen before. Dick, Gary The gears can't

I beg to differ, as most automobile transmissions are not of the constant-mesh type. Gears engage and disengage. The reason one can shift without the clutch is that gears can be engaged without grin

Gary--Thanks for the briefing on the "non-constant mesh" feature of (for one) the TR6 transmission. Other than replacing an end bearing, seals, and shifter O-rings, there is a lot I don't know about

The TR6 trans is constant mesh. The only gear that moves in and out of mesh is reverse. The gear on the input shaft meshes with a gear on the countershaft driving the countershaft. Other gears on the

If you study page 270 of Robert Bentleys' manual carefully you will see what is going on inside your gearbox! The diagram as presented, "assumes" a certain level of competence in the ability to "rea

Yep, I'm way behind times on constant-mesh versus the old sliding-gear type of transmission. However, to prevent gears from grinding or clashing during engagement, a constant-mesh manual transmissio

Yup! The syncros keep the gears from 'grinding' What happens when you shift is the appropriate 'slider', the are two one for 1&2 gear and one for 3&4 gear, moves toward the gear you have selected. Th
