One question and one observation today. Curiosity has got the better of me today. Through my LBC years I have noticed on some of my cars that some of the shocks have been painted "Gold" in color. I

Do not ever use bolts that are too long to secure your shocks. Not only will your shocks wear out, but you could stress the shock mounting plate as well, which you don't want to do... trust me $$$$.

I believe that the 'gold' colour on the shock bodies indicates that the shock is a 'factory' rebuild - from the days when the factory was still doing this. Same as the red colour on the gearboxes, w

I totally agree. The real problem is the hard bolt sinking into the soft aluminum. It only has to sink a couple of thousandths to remove all bolt tension. The hardened flat washers spread out the lo

Flight Engineer 22 years on C-141s out of Norton and March Air Force bases. You guys must have maintained them correctly. They are only now going to the scrap heap after being in service since 1964.
