Sure, its been done lots of times. Although I made a pre-tapped bar with two holes and inserted it into the cavity once. I should have just done what you said. Ken

I used helicoils in two of the holes on my right front shock mount. Either way, the critical part of the job is getting the holes perfectly vertical. I had to use a right angle attachment on my drill
