To all you silicone brake fluid convertee's, how does one positively identify if the brake fluid in the resivour is silicone? Reason I ask is the 89 Volvo I purchased recently has pretty redish color

The Dot 5 Silicone in my clutch m/c is a pretty pale violet sort of colour-almost the colour of tanzanite. Laura G.

If you add a drop of the brake fluid to a small glass of water, see if it mixes or not. If it mixes, it's DOT 3 or 4, if it doesn't mix then it's most likely DOT 5 (silicone). P.S. Don't drink the wa
