Painting may help for a while but if you have a true LBC it will soon be covered in oil/dirt and won't help a bit. Painting the top won't do anything but make it look good. Pete I have my (BT7 MkII

DYNAMAT (or similar products by others) is what you will want to use. I have on both sides of my transmission cover and it is very effective. Best--Michael Oritt, 100 Le Mans
