Steve, BTW, most after market mufflers have the same internals, with just the ends changed to fit the in and out exhaust pipes. So size does not matter. You could also run a larger tail pipe, for loo

I put Flowmasters (42040's) on the Funbeam in 2000, and they are quieter than the glass packs that were on there when I bought it, but not by much. They have a nice rumble at idle and a nice rumble

A very common problem Steve. Typically the trunk seal is the worst offender and this makes sense since you have noticed the residue on your bumper. This indicates that part of the exhaust flow curls
