The difference between the 2 carb numbers is the #266s have the "Y" pipe/vent pipes and they also have the button valves on the throttle plates. (if they have NOT been soldered up as most have) Basic

Look down the throat, if you have spring loaded buttons on the throttle plates, you have a late model carb. No buttons or side air hose connections, means an early carb. 69 and later also had differe

I tend to like the idea of the later carbs but I would definitely replace the throttle plates with solids and get rid of the funky springvalved ones. My reason? I like the y-pipe PCV over the diaphra

I pick up used valves at swap meets for a couple of bucks each. As long as the diaphram is not ripped (and new rubbers are still available from Motorhead) it is good. I have been running the same PCV
