Wanna bet that you broke an axle half-shaft? Dollars to doughnuts that's what happened! Why pull the shaft first (actually, you will want to drain the transmission BEFORE you pull the drive shaft)?

Same exact symptons as when my 72 snapped a half shaft. With car in gear and engine turning and clutch out, look beneath to see whether the drive shaft is turning. chuck

Jeez, if the damned thing won't go, with the clutch out, in gear, I'd be willing to reach underbeneath to see if the drive shaft is turning. Don't need no stinking jackstands if the beast won't move.
