- That's how Yahoo! can offer their services 'free', by selling that advertising space (in those popups). Turning off Javascript will usually (not always) block them, but then many other things don't

- There are a few free programs out there that may stop it. Pop Up Stopper from www.panicware.com prevents extra browser windows from opening unless you want them too and AdSubtract from www.adsubtract
