Did you mike the diameters of the bearing and seal areas on the pinion shafts? Are they the same? mjb.

The Mk IV had a 4.11 ratio... and the big flange input and stub axles. There is a distinct difference between the early (small flange) and late diff's. The input (pinion) shaft is approx 1/8" larger

Thanks Jim, You just confirmed my suspicions! Is the Ring gear for the MkIV and Early Spits the same? It would appear that it is since the ring gear I received fits perfectly on the Quaife carrier? J

jim, although the mk IV wsa listed with a 4.1, only the very early ones had this. the majority of the cars that came to the US had 3.89. this makes finding the "big" gear 4.1. right you are on the si

If I remember correctly, it was the 1972 model (US-spec) Spitfire MkIV that had the 4.11 differential, to counter the effects of the low compression 1296 engine used that year. The 1971 MkIV, and the

Hi Joe, The other difference is the offset of the carrier because of the pinnon gear, the ring gear is thiner or thiker to mate with the pinnon when on the carrier in the houseing. Hope this helps. c
