I bought a spitfire restoration manual the other day and it said that you could put a dolomite sprint engine into a Spitfire. Has anyone done this? Is it easy to do? I'm not planning on doing anythin

The Triumph Dolomite Sprint was a very successful rally car, the sprint is the engine used, a 2 litre lump. Apparently Triumph were going to use it in TR7s, but never got round to it. The TR7 Sprint

In 1978 the Dolomite Racing effort was reported to be making about 215 hp according to Graham Robson. So one can assume that the street version was somewhere just over 100 hp and maybe as high as 120

I have seen one of these conversions over here in the UK, I'm not sure but I think the engine was tilted.. The only trouble with the Sprint engine is the Head and head gasket, very prone to leaking

According to the adverts of the time, the Sprint engine had 127 bhp, which gave the saloon car a top speed of 116 mph - our smaller, lighter, more aerodynamic Spits should get more, depending on gear
