- i dont recall seeing any protection on my 79 spit...i think it is metal to metal. i don't see why you wouldn't be able to "shim" it with a thin material though...such as rubber or something.

- Went and studied mine last night. Mine had the top fastened to the metal plate on top, under the riveted snaps, but also wrapping around the plate, going under and through the rivets again. Complete
