Another thought related to this: Could the fuel line be getting crimped when the engine torques over? If your pressure gauge was before the crimp, you'd still see good pressure but get no actual fue

Kas's suggestion reminds me of a similar experience I had at the Runoffs in 1980. We had taken the battery out of the car to take it back to the motel room to charge it up the night before the race.

My experience was also similar... I felt so defeated... because I just couldn't figure this problem out... All the grounds/cables APPEARED to be in great shape... and all the connections were tight..
