Terry, they were very much Spitfires. Circa 1963, one of the original Spitfire prototypes (forget the commission number, but I think it was the white car registered 4305 VC) was sent off to Michelott

They were actually Spitfires - the top was a fiberglass (IIRC) add-on for aerodynamics - it is NOT the same as a GT-6, though the shape is fairly similar. They had 4 cylinder engines. Triumph World M

The cars were in fact Works Spitfires built of aluminum and running a modified 1147 engine with 8 port cylinder heads. The GT top was fabricated of fiberglass and the transmissions were TR4. But the

the LeMans spitfire was modeled to reflect the up-coming GT6, as far as the hardtop was concerned. it did in fact have the 4-cylinder engine (1196 version), and it's top speed was around 120 MILES/ho
