I am trying to use the original fasteners on my BE restoration. I'm cleaning the scale and crud off with glass bead in my cabinet. Were the original bolts, nuts etc zinc coated? I am stripping off an

Most were Cadmium plated. Chuck knows of a place near you that cad plates by the lb. But a little rust-o-leum can't hurt either. It probably lasts longer than cad plating. -- Frank Clarici Toms River

According to the Sprite parts book, if you know how to read the parts numbers code, most of the fasteners were zinc coated, not cadmium. Cadmium is what restorers do today because of it is easier to

After bead blasting I push them through a piece of cardboard then spray with cold galvanizing compound. After you put them on paint the heads.
